We know that dynamics and energy are so important in a cappella, even more so in the competition format. In ICCA (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) dynamics alone can be the difference maker between first and second place. To go even further, the intensity (or lack thereof) of a cappella groups is one of the more criticized aspects of our genre.
Those who are sometimes turned off by the art form do so because they believe the music doesn't hit as hard as standard instruments do. To that we say, you must not be familiar with this ICCA set by the 2012 Vanderbilt Melodores.
Don't get us wrong, there are a LOT of great groups who put out bass heavy, hard hitting snare type music. But this #TBT left us feeling complete with the group's wheelhouse of vocal effects, dubstep percussion, and spirited singing.
